Thornton High
School of Denver and the Global Shot Doctor are proud to announce
the rekindling of their GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM TOURNAMENT. We will
be inviting teams from Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Nevada,
South Dakota, California, New Mexico, and Idaho.
The tournament
will be modeled after the high successful Rocky Mountain Hoops Classic
in Denver for boys. We would like to thank Brian DeHerrera of Dakota
Ridge High School for his help and input into this year's tournament.
The tournament will consist of two 16 team tournament brackets and
8 (4 team pools) pool brackets. Each 16-team bracket will have a
Championship side, a Consolation I side and a Consolation 2 side.
This will guarantee each team at least 3 games per bracket. Teams
will lay in 1 (16 team) bracket and 1 (4 team) pool play bracket
to guarantee the 6 games. After each bracket is completed, the winners
of each bracket in all sides will have additional games for the
Championships of each category. The Small School Varsity / Large
School J.V. division will only be playing pool play format. We will
be using 4 high school gyms with large score boards (except at Thornton
High School which has 4 gyms side by side).
We hope to have
quality officials from the Rocky Mountain Officials Clinic. Every
team will play at least 2-3 games per day and possibly 4 on the
final day. At last years Boys Classic some teams got as many as
12 or 13 games. Most teams will average 8 or 9 games. Games will
start at 10:00 A.M. and end at 10:00 P.M. for the first 3 days.
This will allow practice time or scrimmage time in the early morning.
The tournament will have T-shirts for the champions and other gifts
for the Consolation champions. Coaches will receive a nice collared
coaching shirt!
Other activities
available in the Denver Metro area include a trip to Elitch Gardens
Amusement Park, Water World (a nearby water amusement park), Fat
City (bowling, putt-putt, golf, skating, and arcades), Heritage
Square Amusement Park. If the Rockies have a home game, there is
a possibility of getting tickets in advance for a baseball game
at Coors Field.
Past team camps
have been tremendous. We wish to extend our appreciation to all
those Teams who participated in our past summer camps. Highly competitive
games are expected. Past team camps have won many leagues and state
championships in their post-seasons. We hope to have all of you
consider this girls weekend tournament.
The tournament
dates will be Wednesday, June 5th through Saturday, June 8th. The
purpose of our tournament is to give your teams the opportunity
to play more diversified teams in a tournament type atmosphere.
We will be promoting this tournament to college coaches, so they
can come and watch some of the best players from a nine-state area.
Your teams will also be able to make a nice vacation out of the
trip, which should build team unity and camaraderie.
We have arranged
very reasonable rates to stay at nearby hotels for those teams that
are traveling. The approximate hotel cost for each player will be
between $12 and $15 per night for each night of lodging. The coach
will have to share rooms with their players for the same price.
Enclosed you will find information on the hotels. It is best to
reserve rooms early and be sure to mention the tournament in order
to get those rates listed. They will only hold rooms until certain
dates.
Due to the popularity
of basketball tournaments, those teams that register early will
have the best opportunity to confirm a spot. If the tournament fills
up early, other teams will be placed on a waiting list based on
the post-mark date of the registration form. Last year the boy's
tournament was full two weeks before the registration deadline.
If your registration comes after the tournament is full, you will
be notified immediately. Your team must have a $300.00 deposit by
May 1st in order to reserve a spot. If there is room after the registration
deadline, the cost will be $500.00 per team. Your cooperation is
greatly appreciated.
We also offer
a Small School Varsity/Large School J.V. Division. Be sure to specify
what division you sign up for. Take advantage of paying a lesser
price per team by having two teams.
We plan on keeping
an updated list of teams entered on the web: http://www.global-shot-dr.com.
